The Kitchen Command Center
Over the past several years per the client’s request, I have found myself eliminating the desk area in the kitchen. This area has been replaced with a “command center”. One of the major differences with the command center in the kitchen is that there is no permanent sit-down area. With people on the go today, a sit down area in the kitchen is not as much a necessity. Some popular items that we can now condense into one area and hide away are phone charging stations, file systems, mail centers, book and magazine storage, printers, key storage, and dry erase/bulletin boards just to name a few.
Another feature clients have really enjoyed over the years is to allow for a temporary seating area in the kitchen at the command center should they want a less permanent seating option. I have accomplished this many ways either by using retractable doors or having a flip down system in place to open and pull up a chair from either the island or the table. With a command center the possibilities are endless.
